As a mother, you search for various ways to make the world a better place for your children and you want them to have the best you can give them. When I was pregnant with my first born, people used to ask me if we wanted a boy or a girl. Our reply was, as long as the baby was healthy. I had suffered for several years from chronic fatigue syndrome and knew how important and valuable having your health was.
Then, not long after my daughter turned two, she became ill. For several days we took her back and forth to the doctor and to the hospital. Each time we got the same result - a virus. In the next couple of days, she slept for hours at a time, woke up and went back to sleep. When she stood up for a short period of time, she could hardly walk and had lost weight.
I didn't feel she was getting any better, in fact she seemed worse. We took her back to the Doctor. He arranged for us to see a Specialist immediately. Not long after, we were in the Intensive Care Unit with a daughter close to being in a coma. She had 'DIABETES' and was in ketoacidosis.....that was the beginning of our journey with diabetes!!
When life returned to normal, with a few added responsibilities, I started to look for medical ID jewellery. I wanted something pretty and something she would keep on. It wasn't a major thing but a part of managing her illness. I wanted something that if I was not there and she was not able to speak then someone would notice the bracelet and know what to do. That was the beginning of 'Level Living'. Also note, the drawing on the Home Page of a little girl with many fingers has been drawn by my other daughter who wants to be just like her older sister. Since an early age, she has lifted her finger to be tested also. She now is and has been diagnosed with Type 1 also.
